E-Scaping the Grid
E-Scaping the Grid has a cultural dialogue amongst Powell Symphony Hall, the Fox Theater, and every day life through a theatrical audio dialog. The installation grew out of from what was already created by a group of students from the graduate school of architecture at Washington University. The cinder block walls, gravel and grass areas were designed and designated for temporary works of art.
My desire was to harness the natural energy of the location and convert it to an esthetic energy, with a surplus. The project is self-sustaining, energy producing and esthetically vibrant. (Poetic Energy)
The chaotic wind tunnel occurring at this location inspired me to use custom wind turbines to capture the natural energy. The Turbines whirl in accordance with the unpredictable wind patterns, generating loud altering frequency sounds creating an atonal symphony conducted by nature. The sporadic movements of the turbines add an animated figurative quality to a predominantly motionless site.
The hexagonal wall lights not only provide comfort and safety at night for the people passing by and those waiting for the bus, but also display their self-sustainable illuminated organic energy.
